What You’ll Learn in Our Search and Rescue Course

The Introduction to Search and Rescue (SAR) Course is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge about the responsibilities, skills, techniques, and equipment required by rescue personnel and teams. This training builds a solid foundation for both field operations and management-level SAR training. Although it focuses primarily on wilderness environments, the material is highly valuable for all types of SAR operations. Key topics include resources, initial response actions, SAR procedures, lost person categories and behavior, search management, and rescuer physiology.

SAR Foundations & Safety

  • Roles, responsibilities, available resources, scene safety & risk assessment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Incident Command System (ICS/NIMS)

  • Basic principles, communications, initial actions, search management, documentation.

Lost Person Behavior

  • Categories of lost persons, typical behaviors, ISRID statistics, reflex tasking techniques.

Search Tactics

  • Hasty, grid/line, containment, route & point searches, clue awareness, PLS/IPP.

Field Skills

  • Navigation with map, compass & GPS, basic mapping, environment assessment (weather, terrain, hazards) and risk mitigation.

Medical Support

  • Rescuer physiology, basic field first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use.

Volunteers & NGOs

  • Integration of volunteer groups and NGOs, cooperation & coordination in SAR operations.

To join our courses, you need to be at least 18 years old (legal age of adulthood.

The Search and Rescue (SAR) training course is designed to provide you with valuable knowledge and practical skills that will help you respond safely in emergency situations. This program is intended solely for educational purposes and does not provide professional rescuer certification nor replace professional medical care

Duration:

  • 2 days

Format:

  • A dynamic combination of interactive lectures, hands-on practical workshops, and realistic field scenarios designed to simulate real-life search and rescue conditions.

Materials:

  • All participants receive comprehensive course notes and training manuals, ensuring that the knowledge and skills gained during the program can be reviewed and reinforced after the training.
  1. During the training courses, participants engage in extensive practical drills and evaluation assessments, based on progressive scenarios and adjusted according to the level of difficulty.

  2. The techniques taught are based on international standards and have been designed to be safe, applicable, and easy to understand for all participants. In real-life situations, participants are encouraged to apply what they have learned with caution, within their personal limits, and always with respect for their own safety and that of others.

  3. If you are not physically capable of performing such strenuous activities, we strongly advise against registering for this class.

By joining this course, you acknowledge that the training is intended exclusively for educational purposes, aiming at your personal development and preparedness. Upon completion, you understand that if you face a real emergency, you are expected to apply only what you have been trained in, without exceeding the limits of your knowledge and skills, in order to protect your safety and the safety of those around you. The company and instructors accept no liability for misuse or application beyond the scope of this training.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a Search and Rescue (SAR) Certificate. The certification is designed to be fully aligned with Greek legislation and reflects internationally recognized search and rescue standards and protocols.


Recommendation:

It is strongly recommended that participants renew their certification every two (2) years, in order to stay current with the latest SAR procedures, maintain operational readiness, and reinforce their skills, confidence, and safety awareness during real-world rescue operations.
